Establishing a new medical school

From inception to accreditation, we work with you to develop bespoke solutions for your medical school, meeting your local requirements wherever you are in the world.

  • In the Inception Phase the following areas are defined to enable the development of a business case, project plan and key milestones:

    • vision, mission and strategic objectives

    • location and building requirements

    • placement partnership plan

    • staff establishment plan

    • governance structure and quality framework

    • curriculum design and assessment strategy

    • student marketing, recruitment and selection

    • student support and fitness to practise

    • accreditation requirements

  • The Preparation Phase is typically an 18-month period culminating in the arrival of the first student cohort. Activities include:

    • completion of office and education spaces

    • configuring the information systems infrastructure

    • procurement and installation of technical equipment

    • development of learning outcomes, and curriculum and assessment materials

    • recruitment and training of staff

    • launch of programme publicity and student marketing

    • commencement of student recruitment and selection

    • introduction of governance and policy frameworks

    • continuing accreditation process

  • The Implementation Phase starts with the arrival of the first student cohort and continues until the time of their graduation (4 to 6 years). It involves:

    1. Ongoing development of the programme e.g. curriculum, assessments, placements, new policies and standard operating procedures.

    2. Activities driven by growth of the school as student numbers increase and new years of the programme are delivered:

    • placement partnership expansion

    • ongoing staff recruitment

    • ongoing faculty development

    • increased education and office space

    3. Ensuring governance, education quality and accreditation requirements are met.
